new Blog

So due to the frustration of never getting this blog to accept comments i have created a new blog (with the exact same comments settings) that does!

http://brain-ambulations.blogspot.com/

The new blog will be centred on the plan to hike the Appalachian trail. I hope to have pictures from training hikes and maybe other stuff, some links to info about the madness and my generally foolish thoughts.

Musings of a madman

Ok I`ve been putting this off long enough. I`ve been back to werk for a week now so I have no more excuses. In a nutshell: real life sucks. On the tour I would joke to the kids that a day biking uphill, in the rain, with a headwind was better than a day behind a desk. Now I know I wasn`t joking. That said, I`m never biking the Cabot trail again and things are fine at werk. If I had it to do all over again yeah, there are things I might do differently but I`d do it.

Will I bike across Canada again? Never say never but right now I`d like to do other stupid big trips. (Yes Appalachian trail I got my eye on you) I would like to drive across the country though. Either by car or motor bike. I`d like to see some stuff I had to skip, eat at the `other` restaurant in a few places and generally compare the two experiences. It might be interesting to reflect that it took me all day to pedal what I just drove in two hours...

Should you bike across Canada? If you want to yes, but if you have some other `too big` thing you want to do I say make it happen. It will be worth the sacrifices you will have to make.

A typical day on the road

Yes there`s some relief in my face at this point (done)

I`ll be posting pics to facebook as well (in the coming weeks).

Sin Sity

Done and done! I am glad to be finished, glad to have done it and a little sad that it's already over. We had good weather for the ride across the Avalon. The 44 hour wait to get here from North Sydney has made the finish a bit rushed. Most of us are packing tonight and then on the plane in the morning so no big closing bash.

I'll wait a few days to let it all digest before posting my closing thoughts.

The Martimes

No need for maps in the Martimes I've got the routine figured out - Leave camp in pouring rain. Turn into the wind. Climb masive hill. Repeat until you find a horde of blood thirsty mosquitoes. Set up wet tent.

I'm waiting in North Sydney for our delayed ferry to NL. 10 hours delay so far thanks to stormy seas. The final schedule is shot to peices and it is now going to be a race to catch my flight to Ottawa. I am ready to spend a few nights in my own warm dry bed and a few days out of the saddle. In a few days I'll be glad to be done and also sad to be done.

Favre a Jet - sad day bro.

Getting there

Howdy. I entered New Brunswick a couple of days ago with a strong tail wind. Quebec was nice and hte roads better than expected. Ontario has the slight edge over Manitoba for worst roads in Canada at the moment. In a couple of days we ride through P.E.I. and shortly after that it's over.

It will be weird to go back to the complications of real life. For two months now my life has been gloriously simple: Eat. Sleep. Bike. I must admit though I am slipping from touring the country into just doing the kilometers some days - especially the long days or when the weather is not so nice.

It's been cold in NB until today when it got hot all of a sudden. Hopefully it will stay nice for tomorrow and Barry and I can get in a few hours of kayaking or something. Yes my bro is driving up to visit!
